Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT)
Integrative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the full-integration of cognitive and behavioural psychology with other therapeutic approaches
iCBT is a practical intervention based on common sense. Itโs rational, realistic and includes a good sprinkle of scepticism! Most importantly, your collaboration, participation and imagination are crucial for the speed and effectiveness of this therapy!
It is evidence-based, makes use of well-researched methods, skills and techniques from different disciplines and incorporates them within a consistent framework.
๏ปฟThis framework can be easily adapted to fit around your lifestyle and help you resolve or better manage a variety of current distressing, psychological issues. And, you can keep using it to overcome different problems throughout your life.

Hypnosis – Myths and Truths
One of the approaches I integrate within the iCBT framework is self-hypnosis. Iโve found hypnosis to be extremely helpful when teamed with relaxation techniques, imagining specific scenarios and rehearsing new skills and techniques before trying out in โreal-lifeโ. Hereโs some myths and truths about hypnosis;
You’re in a trance.
Stage hypnosis is theatre, itโs designed to entertain, not heal. Clinical hypnosis is safe, collaborative, and grounded in therapeutic goals. You’re always in control, simply focusing inward, like getting lost in a good book. Nothing happens without your consent. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.
You don’t know what’s happening.
You can come out of hypnosis anytime. Itโs a natural, chosen state, not something done to you. You might feel a little floaty afterwards, but thatโs just your brain adjusting. The โtrance stateโ is merely a state of internal focus. Youโre always aware of whatโs happening. Itโs a safe and controlled process.
It’s mind manipulation.
No, youโre taught how to enter a focused, conscious state on your own terms. You stay in control the entire time. This mindset helps you relax your body, notice unhelpful thoughts, and view situations more clearly. Itโs a chance to rehearse new skills mentally before applying them in real life.
It doesn’t work.
Clinical studies show that hypnosis combined with CBT boosts results for anxiety, depression, obesity, and pain. Itโs backed by major medical bodies including the BMA and APA. Itโs non-invasive, effective, and evidence-based. This isnโt woo, itโs science. And for many, it works brilliantly.
