About Matter

I’m Hazel

Therapist. Straight-talker. A kind and compassionate psychotherapist and life-coach. Big believer in our innate ability to adapt…but that we need an incentive big enough to overcome our mind’s innate fear of change. It’s not enough to get rid of something we don’t want (like distressing feelings)……it needs to result in us getting something that makes us feel deeply fulfilled, that sparks joy!

Through Matter I use my therapeutic training and skills, decades of life and business experience….and a sprinkling of shared humour and fun……to help people re-discover, or uncover, the things that matter most to them, their values and their unique strengths. I help them to use these factors to more easily learn techniques to reduce distressing symptoms and more effective ways of coping with issues. Then to create their own fulfilling, joy-filled life.

We don’t need to be ‘fixed’ because we’re not broken, we’re human. With the right support, at our own pace, we are creative and capable. But we do have to make a choice…..to keep putting time and effort into the same strategy or to commit to change.

So, the question is, “How’s your current strategy working out for you?”

What's involved in CBT therapy with Matter Mind and Body

My five step plan

  • Step 1 – Book an Exploratory Call
  • Step 2 – Grounding, Re-Focusing and Re-building
  • Step 3  –  Empowering and Experimenting
  • Step 4 –  Future Proofing and Generalising
  • Step 5 – Check-in and Boosting

Therapy is not something done to you, it’s something done with you…for you. Something you chooseto do…at your own pace. Our work will be safe and supportive.

My approach is caring and collaboration. My aim is to share information, strategies and skills so you can keep being courageous and creating a life filled with what matters most to you…long-after therapy finishes!

My life so far has been eventful to say the least! Moments of great joy, love and a catalogue of setbacks. Usually one after another. Always when I least expect it.

I’ve experienced the overwhelm of personal and work-related anxiety and the lows of significant personal loss. From being on top of the world to feeling stuck, helpless and hopeless.

But all my experiences, and studies, have taught me that events don’t have to define you or your capabilities, that you have choice. That coping and adapting involves skills you can learn with the right support, some time, effort and courage.

Most people don’t realise this, so I’m spreading the word!
